FAQs

Do you provide rental items such as tables, chairs, linens, glassware, and silverware?
Yes, Herbs & Spices Catering will arrange all of your rental needs, from the usual party items, such as: tables, chairs, linens, china, glassware, and silverware, to more elaborate items, such as: fine china, crystal, and specialty linens. We can also arrange for larger items, such as: canopies, stages, and dance floors. We use a few local rental companies with a wide variety of items for you to choose from to enhance your event.

Do you set up and clean up?
Yes, we will dress and set the tables, clear the tables, and clean the service/kitchen area, leaving it as we found it. If you want us to set up and break down the tables and chairs, there is an additional fee.

Do you provide beer, wine, and liquor?
Herbs & Spices has a license to serve beer, wine, and liquor, but we cannot purchase it. We do partner with beverage services, and we can help you to arrange for them if you would like.

Do you provide servers and bartenders?
Yes, Herbs & Spices Catering is a full service caterer and can provided all of your staffing needs.

How do you charge for labor?
We charge for our staff by the hour, based on a five hour minimum per staff person. We do our best to estimate the amount of time that our staff will be needed for your event. However, since many variables exist, the final cost is based on the actual time worked.

How many staff people will be needed at my event?
Your staffing needs will depend on the size of your event, as well as how elaborate and formal it is. After we learn more about your event and your needs, we will recommend the proper number of staff to ensure that your event goes smoothly.

Besides the cost for food, what other charges can I expect for a catered event?
Our proposal will include an itemized list so that you can see exactly what the costs are going to be. There are no hidden fees. Herbs & Spices Catering adds on an optional 18% gratuity. If you would like, you can remove it from the contract and distribute it to the staff at your own discretion.

What is "drop-off" service?
Drop-off service means that we will bring the food to you. All cold or room temperature items will be ready to go on disposable serving trays. Hot items will be in oven proof trays, and you will need to heat them up and place them on serving trays. There are no servers. We charge for delivery and pick up, beginning at $10 for Alameda. Other locations will be charged by distance. You can also choose to pick up the food yourself. This option works best for more informal events, during which you do not mind doing some work.

Do you provide paper goods, china, linens, and chafing-dishes for drop-offs?
Yes, we can provide any items that you need, whether they are paper or china.

Do you charge extra to cut the wedding cake?
No, we do not charge a cake cutting fee. Herbs & Spices does not make wedding cakes, but we can recommend some fabulous bakers.

Do you have children's prices?
Yes, children five and under are free, and children under ten receive a 25% discount (unless we create a special meal for the children).
